ABSTRAK

The present classroom action study dealt with teaching spelling through phonics strategy to the class A students of Kindergarten School Sanur. Investigation basically triggered by the fact that the subjects under study still faced problem in spelling. Teaching spelling through phonics strategy was expected to be an effective way in improving and enhancing the classroom action study that made use of pre –test and post-test research design with descriptive analysis. It consisted of two cycles there were two successive sessions. The present classroom action study was started with administering initial reflection. In the light of the main objective of the classroom action study, the IR was intended to establish the real pre-existing spelling ability of the subjects under study in English. The result of the IR reflection clearly showed that the pre-existing teaching spelling ability of the subjects was low. The result of the data analysis of the reflection scores for cycle I figured out the increasing mean figures of 4.3 and5.45 for S1 and S2 respectively. The result of the data analysis of the reflection scores for cycle II clearly figured out the increasing mean figures of 7.5 and 8.65 for S3 and S4 respectively. The grand mean figures for cycle I and cycle II showed the figured of 4.87 and 8.07. There was a different mean figure of 3.2 between the two cycles. The result of the analysis of the interview scores showed the comparative percentage figures of 66.3%, 31.7%, 2.9% and 0% for the item of the interview showing the total responses given A, B, C and D respectively. These resulted comparative percentage figure clearly showed the subjects’ attitudes and motivation in improving English Spelling mastery through Phonics Strategy. These clearly describe that the hypothesis, teaching spelling skill through phonics strategy to the class A students of Little Stars Kindergarten School in academic year 2012/2013, is accepted.
