ABSTRAK

They study dealt with assessing reading comprehension of the Eighth grade students of SMP WidyaSakti Denpasar in academic year 2016/2017. The undertaking of the research study was mainly intended to figure out the achievement of the reading comprehension of the Eighth grade students of SMP WidyaSakti Denpasar in academic year 2016/2017 which was assessed by using impromptu reading plus comprehension questions. This study was designed in the form of an ex post facto research design. The samplesof this study were 37 students which were taken by using quota random sampling technique with lottery system. The data which were needed for this present study were collected by administering impromptu reading plus comprehension question in theform of multiple choice. The obtained data were analyzed by using norm-reference measure of five standard values. The findings of this study clearly figured out that (1) 4 samples were excellent, (2) 8 samples were good, (3) 12 samples were sufficient, (4) 11 samples were insufficient, and (5) 2 samples were poor on reading comprehension. In this study, there were 65.00% of the samples under study were successful, while 35.00% of the samples under were unsuccessful in reading comprehension which assessed by administering impromptu reading plus comprehension question.
