IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP AMARAWATI TAMPAKSIRING IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017 THROUGH QUESTION ANSWER RELATIONSHIP

ABSTRAK

Reading has an important role in learning process because the students’ success in learning other subjects is very much determined by the high degree of mastering reading.In fact, reading has become the problem that is often faced by the students in which many students find difficulties to understand the content of a reading passage. The undertaking of the present classroom action research was mainly intended to figure out whether or not reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Amarawati Tampaksiring can be improved through question answer relationship. The subjects of the present study was the eighth grade students of SMP Amarawati Tampaksiring in academic year 2016/2017.The subject consisted of 31 students, there were 18 males and 13 females. Based on the result of the pre-test which was carried out in the pre-cycle, it pointed that the subjects’ ability in reading comprehension was still low. The present classroom research was then carried out through implementing question answer relationship in two cycles. The result of the post-test in each cycle obviously showed that there was significant improvement concerning the subjects’ ability in reading comprehension. The result of pre-test clearly showed that the pre-existing reading comprehension of the subject was still low with the mean score of 39,81. The result of data analysis of post-test in cycle I showed the increasing with mean score 61,68 and the mean score of cycle II was 72,19. This research furthermore showed that there was positive responses concerning the strategy applied in improving the subjects’ reading comprehension. To sum up, the present classroom action study proved that reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Amarawati Tampaksiring in academic year 2016/2017 could be improved through question answer relationship.
