ABSTRAK

This study intended to figure out the achievement of reading comprehension of the ninth grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2016/2017 which was assessed through scanning task. The subject of the present study was the ninth grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2016/2017 that consisted of 22 males and 18 females. They were determined by means of quota random sampling techniques with lottery system. The data which were needed for this present study were collected through administering scanning task as the instrument. This study was designed in the form of ex post facto research design. The obtained data were analyzed by using norm-reference measure of five standard values. The result of data showed there were 85.00% samples under the study were considered successful and 15.00% samples were considered unsuccessful. To sum up, this research could be remarked as sufficient acquisition which meant that some samples under study were able to achieve reading comprehension of the ninth grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2016/2017 which was assessed through scanning task
